Best Spring Car Maintenance Checklist

Spring cleaning isn’t limited to your home. You should also “spring clean” your car. We don’t mean to have it detailed, although it might be due for that, too. Rather, your vehicle has a spring maintenance checklist to ensure it gets you through the hot summer months trouble-free, and Village Autoworks can check off the items on your list.

Oil Change

Your coolant isn’t the only thing that prevents your engine from running too hot. Your engine oil also plays a crucial role in keeping everything cool. Motor oil lubricates critical engine parts that work together at high speeds. This lubricates the parts and prevents friction. If you’re due, schedule a lube, oil, and filter to prepare your engine for the hotter months ahead.

Radiator Inspection

Coolant is the other part of this equation. Check your owner’s manual for radiator system checks. If your vehicle is due for one, usually every 30,000 miles, bring it in. Even if it isn’t, let us pop open the hood and check your coolant to ensure it’s clean and full. We will also inspect your radiator for rust, leaks, or other damage. You don’t want to overheat once the mercury rises.

Other Fluids

We’ve talked about your oil and coolant, so let’s talk about other fluids now. Part of your vehicle’s spring cleaning is to check your transmission oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and windshield wiper fluid. All of your fluids should be inspected to make certain you have enough of each in your vehicle and that the fluid is clean and free of contaminants.

Air Filter

Your air filter should also be changed if it’s dirty. This part is crucial to your air conditioner’s performance, and we should probably inspect your AC, too, to make certain it’s ready for its summer job. We’ll give your comfort system the once-over and run diagnostics on it, as well. You’ll need it if the summer is particularly hot and humid.

Tires

Finally, your tires should be inspected every other oil change. They need a rotation at that mileage milestone. We will also test your balance and alignment to ensure both are perfect. Summer roads are hot and wreak havoc on your tires. We’ll look at how much tread you have left and whether that tread is wearing evenly. You don’t to risk the danger of a blowout.
